New fall classes on the Hill

After Labor Day, I will be adding several local classes to the schedule: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at MAFA (capitolhillmartialarts.com) Monday and Wednesday; 12:15 to 1 p.m. at CHAW (Chaw.org) Tuesday and Thursday. Hope to see you on the mat!

Thank you summer yogis; new time/day for open-sky yoga!

Summer vacation is coming to an end, but open-sky yoga in Lincoln Park is not! We are changing the time and day back to 9:30 a.m. Fridays, starting Aug. 26. Also wanted to thank all dedicated yogis who didn’t miss a beat/pose this summer during which we met each week no matter how hot, muggy […]

A month of open-sky summer yoga

A small but dedicated group of yoginis – six to 12 – has been showing up for toasty open-sky summer yoga in Lincoln Park in the past month. We have worked on squaring the hips, rolling the shoulders down and back as well as pulling the navel toward the spine – all in the name […]

Open-sky: Aligning with gratitude

Fourteen yogis gathered in a muddy Lincoln Park to align the spine and express gratitude. We treated the spine as one unit – being mindful of the movements of the neck in relation to the rest of the back. And we expressed gratitude for our practice (in its eighth week) together. Namaste.

Open-sky: Back-bending observations

In Friday’s class we talked about the importance of giving ourselves space – observing rather than reacting  and judging. A dozen of us expressed this notion through heart openers and back bends – allowing ourselves to be vulnerable and brave at the same time. Namasté.

Little yogis at Open-Sky

Last week we had 19 adult yoginis and five teeny yogis twisting in utkatasana and lengthening in peaceful warrior while surrounded by traffic noise and ten-year old soccer players (turned out part of Watkins had moved their field-day to Lincoln Park!). It was an awesome sight. Talk about concentration.

Open-sky: Full field of yogis

Wow. Twenty-five yogis – including several guys! –  in our open-sky yoga class at Lincoln Park yesterday invited creativity and playfulness into their practice as we played the edge of our physical and mental abilities. Focusing, breathing, lengthening, strengthening. With gratitude, GB

Open-sky yoga, open-mind yoga

Today 13 yoginis were treated to amazing spring weather in Lincoln Park. We worked on hip openers and gravity-defying arm balances. Our reading was about not making assumptions about ourselves or others, but keeping our minds open. Namasté.
