Yoga * Fitness * Writing
What a gorgeous day – a perfect backdrop for the gorgeous feedback you all are giving me 😉 Turns out LinkedIn told the world it’s my small-business anniversary! Thank you. (Was not even on my mind, but now that it is, here is my small-business story with a layer of gratitude.)
As some of you know, I was laid off from newspaper reporting about five years ago and started freelance writing and working on yoga and other fitness certifications. A year later, my business was up and running – teaching boot camps, yoga, cycling etc and writing for the Post and the Smithsonian as well as doing PR for businesses and nonprofits. Over time, fitness took over and is now about 85 percent of what I do.
Am grateful for the opportunities to work with many local businesses and organizations (including VIDA, Atlas Fitness, Yoga District, Sculpt DC, CHAW, BikerBarre, MAFA, CrossFit, Sughrue Mion, Basis DC, Capitol Hill Montessori, Embrace DC, Results etc) – each experience taught me something about myself and how to be a better teacher. In the end, Results has been the place that’s afforded me the most creative freedom and best compensation – both crucial in furthering skills and maintaining a living.
Am also grateful for the twice-a-week Lincoln Park Boot Camp which has become a great community where people of all fitness levels meet to improve their health and well-being – some with specific goals (weight loss or race training) and others just enjoying the group dynamic and the great outdoors. A little something for everyone.
And then there are the personal training and private yoga clients. You teach me something every time we meet – be it modifications because of injuries or progressions because you keep getting stronger 🙂 You push me to become a better listener, to further my knowledge base and to cultivate the best teaching methods. Thank you!
Am entering this fifth year on my own with happiness and gratitude – am a hard worker but none of it would happen without you all. Thanks so much for your support and continued interest in health and fitness!
